Girls and Boys-

As we discussed at the kamp meeting last night, the NYC container-load in is on August 10, 2013 at the corner of Warren Street and Morgan Street, Jersey City, New Jersey 07302:

Because we have wonderful relations with the incredible people at Container Camp, we are going to be able to load in together, with our goods at the back of one of trucks and should be able to transport those items from container camp to the Kostume Kult's camp at 3:15 and Esplanade early during build week. This only works if we all collaborate.

1. ARRIVAL TIME- 11:30 AM: You have received an email from container that we are loading onto the container at approximately 1PM. That's when we are actually scheduled to load in. WE HAVE TO BE THERE WELL IN ADVANCE IF WE ARE TO GET EVERYTHING IN TOGETHER. Container load in is a process- you have to get your vehicle, you have to get your crap into your vehicle, you have to pick up your friends and their crap, you have to get to New Jersey, you have to unload your crap, you have to drag it to our area, you have to check in with the container people, you have to have the container people measure your crap, and then, when they say so, we have to load it into the truck. That's a lot of possible screwups- so- a) leave early; b) PLAN ON MEETING AT THE LOAD IN LOCATION IN JERSEY CITY AT 11:30 AM

2. PACKING- All items must be securely packaged. They are going into a really really big truck with lots of items. Lots of items which are very heavy- lots of very heavy items which are going to be bumping around in in a big truck, then lifted up and dropped onto a train traveling across the country, then lifted up and dropped on another truck which will drive out to the playa and then bump across the playa. Hence, make sure that the containers are real sturdy. Real real sturdy. And make sure that the containers are full- they are far more secure that way.

3. CONTENTS. The NYC Container Website http://www.nyccontainer.com/ has a list of dos and don'ts regarding what you can and can not take. It is going by truck/train/truck. It is subject to government (including law enforcement) inspection. You don't want to screw things up for yourself (see below re: labels); you don't want to screw things up for everybody else. It is also gets very (very) hot in the truck, so don't put inside anything that can be adversely affected by the heat. Similarly, don't put inside anything which can adversely impact your goods (and those of everybody else) do to the impact of the heat (cans which can explode, batteries, flammable substances, etc.).

4. LABELING. It is a big truck. There will be lots of packages inside of it. When it gets to the playa, the only chance that the early crew will have to successfully bring your containers back to the camp is if it is clearly labeled. They do a great job; they are not perfect, and DK will not be at load in and can not use his photographic memory to identify every package. Hence, by loading in together and labeling the containers the process should work reasonably well and the early crew should get all (or virtually all) of the pieces. Items will be labeled in two ways: First, personally label your goods in a number of locations with your real name/playa name/telephone number/kostume kult and 3;15 and Esplanade. Label it in a manner that it won't fall off. In the event that the early crew misses something, this is the only way you'll be able to retrieve it and it will great help the early crew in identifying what comes back to the camp. Second, we will do our very best to paint a KK logo on each package. Eliza is bringing some stencils which she made and I'll bring a couple of cans of spray paint. The stencils should make it easier for the early crew to get your goods. Remember, they are there to build the camp which is a major undertaking and their time is limited. If all of our stuff is together and properly labeled it will allow them to quickly and comprehensively get the stuff back to camp. It is better for you (you do want your stuff and you do want showers and kitchen built); it is better for them (they can sit around and drink beer).

5. GETTING THERE. Speak to your fellow camp mates on the KKBM 13 list and work out ride shares. Some folks get together and rent U-Haul vans (much cheaper than renting an SUV and more room- note, you can not use the Holland Tunnel to get back). For example, I'm renting a truck w/ brite lite from upper manhattan. There may be some room. Plan ahead time wise. Its summer. There are street fairs. There could be traffic. There could be construction. Make sure that you and the others are ready on time.

6. LOAD IN. You must be personally present at load in or else have the form properly notarized if somebody else is bringing your stuff. The Container crew makes no exceptions. When you get there, after you have parked your vehicle (ask where KK will be situated, so you can park nearby) unload it and bring it near us. Then immediately a) let the Container Camp crew know that you are ready to be inspected and b) let me know that you have arrived. Once you've been inspected, let me know as well. The sooner that they have inspected and measured your goods, the sooner we can start consolidating them. We'll spray on the logos', we'll move everything to one big pile and collectively load up the truck. Bring gloves and comfortable working clothing. YOU CAN NOT SIMPLY DROP OFF YOUR STUFF- HAVE IT MEASURED- AND LEAVE. It is going to take our collaborative effort to load it in.

7. ATMOSPHERE. Load in is actually a lot of fun. You get to hang with your camp-mates; you get to work together in a colloborative manner. Bring music. Bring beverages (if alcholic, be discreet- its public). Bring treats for your fellow burners. BRING BRIBES to the wonderous folks at container camp. They are doing us an awesome favor by letting us load in together. Its a real pain for them to do it. Be extra nice to them. They deserve it.

We've worked real hard to build a great community- If you fuck up by not arriving on time, not packaging correctly, not labeling your stuff, not helping, etc. it hurts not only you, but everybody else and that is radically un-cool. And I won't tolerate it.

8. Below is a list of who we THINK based on Container Camp's records are loading in with us. IF YOU ARE NOT ON THIS LIST AND PLAN ON LOADING IN LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATELY. Also let me know if you are on this list and are not planning on loading in.
